Audio-Technica Teams with the University of Akron’s Esports Program as Its Exclusive Audio Partner
145th AES Convention, New York, NY, October 17, 2018 — Audio-Technica (booth 422) announced it has signed on with the University of Akron (UA) as the exclusive audio partner of UA’s Akron Zips esports teams and associated broadcasting activities. The UA partnership represents the company’s first entry into collegiate esports sponsorship.
The University of Akron is rated among the top 15 best colleges for esports in the US and offers varsity, club and recreational esports gaming programs as well as related opportunities for students in engineering, computer science, communications and other areas of study.
Audio-Technica is providing its top-of-the-line ATH-AG1x high-fidelity gaming headsets for each player’s use and ATH-PG1 premium gaming headsets for UA’s recreational facilities. During gaming competitions, the commentators will deliver the play-by-play using the company’s BPHS1 broadcast stereo headsets, and Audio-Technica’s BP4001 cardioid dynamic microphones will be used for interviewing players during the games. Audio-Technica is also contributing $2,500 in scholarships for varsity team members and an additional $2,500 for student audio engineers.
“Audio-Technica is proud to be a sponsor of the University of Akron’s esports program and its efforts towards excellence in esports competition,” said Greg Pinto, Audio-Technica U.S. Vice President of Marketing and Consumer Sales. “Like traditional athletics programs, esports teams depend on professional-quality equipment, and our headsets provide the highest levels of performance to ensure that the UA players will be able to hear every sonic aspect of the game and play at the peak of their abilities.”
The Audio-Technica ATH-AG1x (US$299.00) headset delivers an immersive sonic experience that draws players completely into the gaming environment. The headsets feature built-in gooseneck microphones and employ audiophile-quality drivers and components for exceptional bass, dynamics and clarity. The ATH-PG1 headset (US$129.00) employs large-diameter drivers for powerful and detailed gaming sound and offers smartphone compatibility, a flexible detachable boom microphone and other gaming-centric features.
Audio-Technica’s BPHS1 broadcast stereo headset (US$199.00) is designed especially for sports and news broadcasting, announcing and interviews. It provides highly intelligible vocal reproduction and like the gaming headsets, offers long-wearing comfort and outstanding isolation from background noise. The BP4001 microphone (US$179.00) delivers clear, accurate vocal reproduction along with exceptional isolation from handling noise and reliability even under the most demanding conditions of professional use.
